Seven Principles of Spiritualism
Spiritualism does not have commandments nor dogma , but beliefs that are expressed in the "Seven Principles of Spiritualism" .
The concepts and original wording of the Seven Principles of Spiritualism came through the mediumship of Emma Harding Britten as she communicated with the spirit of Robert Owen in 1871.
Bitten was a spiritualist medium who had intuitive and mediumship abilities from a young age. She was well known as an actress, a musician and an orator speaking in support of social reform as well as the philosophy of spiritualism. It was through her fame that the "Seven Principles" were quickly adopted by spiritualists.

In life, Robert Owen was, above all, a seeker.
He was a Welsh social reformer and one-time industrialist in Scotland . His factory was unique in that he refused to follow the standard practices of the day of exploiting his workers. Instead he treated them well, paid them in currency ( instead of tokens only good at the company store), and created decent working conditions and living quarters.
He immigrated to the US to form a utopian society, but is perhaps best known for sharing the Seven Principles of Spiritualism.

Over time, the wording of the Principles have been updated using modern language. Our version is a belief in:
- The Existence of a Divine Creator
- The Divine Family of Humanity
- Communications, Guidance and Healing from Spirit
- The Continuous Existence of the Soul
- Personal Responsibility
- Spiritual Law of Cause and Effect
- Eternal Progress of the Soul
The Seven Principles (with minor changes), are still in use today by Spiritualist Associations and churches throughout the world.
